Questions & Answers Archives

You can use a motion detector sprinkler year round if you live in the sunbelt of the USA or other warmer climates.

If there is a freeze warning, you should disconnect the unit and bring it inside until the weather warms up. Would not hurt to bring in the hose as well.

People in places like Florida and Arizona will have less to be concerned about than people say in the North East and other parts of the country.

The motion detector sprinkler uses water and if it freezes, it can damage your unit.

Normally, this time of year also sees a decline in animal traffic that will turn into pests that
damage gardens etc.

Just use common sense, and if it is going to get into the freezing range, bring your units and hosing inside to prevent any damage.

The motion detection sprinkler range for the motion detector alone is approximately a 1,000 sq. ft. area.

The easiest way to describe this would be that if you had the motion detector sprinkler right in front of you, it would detect motion about 35 ft. straight out from where you are standing and about 22 feet to your left and 22 feet to your right side.

The burst of water will oscillate from left to right and extend out approximately 35 feet with average water pressure.

Need to know the definition of a motion detector sprinkler system? So do we!

Our guess from some research, is that some folks call a single motion detector sprinkler a system as in here is a strategy for deterring animals.

Our second guess is that some folks are calling the product a motion detector sprinkler system when you take one or of the devices and hook them together. An example would be at the corners of a garden or say two sides of your property lines.

Whatever you want to call these units is just fine, knowing that they are a wonderful deterrent for all types of animals.

An animal sprinkler is the same as a motion detector sprinkler.

It's just the shortened version. The key here is to have a device that detects the animal and then shoots a blast of water at it.

Are you at war with rabbits? Do not feel alone. Beside cats they are one of the most complained about animal pests that we come across.

The great news is that rabbits are like most of the other animal pests. They do not like surprise motion and noise elements, along with getting a blast of water.

We have found that a motion detector sprinkler is effective against rabbits. We had to adjust the placement twice, but then the rabbits disappeared. The reviews on Amazon proclaim similar results to ours.

A good motion detector bird deterrent to buy would be dictated by the problem area involved and the type of bird.

If you are having problems with larger birds on a deck or outdoor pool a motion detector sprinkler would be effective. The reasoning would be that this is an area where you can install the unit and supply water to it easily.

If you are having problems with birds on building ledges or trees then bird spike strips, bird scarers (reflective strips, decoys, paste) or ultrasonic devices would work better. There a lots of different bird repellent methods, trick and tools available online. Click here for more information about them.

In our research, we have found the two major players are Contech (Scarecrow) and Havahart (SprayAway).

The customer reviews at Amazon.com for motion sensor sprinklers are as follows:

Customer Reviews:
Contech - 628
Havahart - 72

Customer Ratings:
Contech - 4.5 out of 5.0
Havahart - 4.0 out of 5.0

Conclusion:
Both
of these units perform exactly as advertised. They will deter a variety of animals from the area that they are set up to monitor. Construction is also similar on both units. Pricing is also very close, depending on where the item is purchased. The clear leader is the Scarecrow by Contech as opposed to the SprayAway by Havahart purely by sales and customer feedback.
