Our second guess is that some folks are calling the product a motion detector sprinkler system when you take one or of the devices and hook them together. An example would be at the corners of a garden or say two sides of your property lines.

A good motion detector bird deterrent to buy would be dictated by the problem area involved and the type of bird.
If you are having problems with larger birds on a deck or outdoor pool a motion detector sprinkler would be effective. The reasoning would be that this is an area where you can install the unit and supply water to it easily.
If you are having problems with birds on building ledges or trees then bird spike strips, bird scarers (reflective strips,decoys,paste) or ultrasonic devices would work better. Both of these units perform exactly as advertised. They will deter a variety of animals from the area that they are set up to monitor. Construction is also similar on both units.
